The power of Wands – Energy Directing
The Wand….
A tool that is used by Witches, Sorcerers, ect, for directing and enhancing energies during spell work, rituals, or any magickal working. It is masculine and associated with the energies of fire (or air in some circles).
A wand is usually made of wood, but like all magickal tools they are personal and can me made out anything you choose. They can be decorated with crystals and feathers among other things. This adds personality and the energies of the sorcerer to the wand. Most ceremonial sorcerers and witches have several types of wands for directing different types of energies.
Wands are one of the oldest magickal tool. The scribes of Egypt use to carry wands with them to aid in casting their magickal incantation and directing the flow ov energies during their workings. They are also seem in fantasy all over the world.
Wands are very personal and are all different from one another. If you are going to make your wand out of wood, make sure that it is a tree that you feel connected to. The wood that is meant for you is a tree you feel closest to. Some people use Oak trees, others use Willow. I created my first wand out of a Yew tree. You can also use different wands for different spells and working. Some wands are only used to cast a particular spell or ritual, while others are a general magickal working wand used for whatever you want. Basically you need to follow what you are guided to, when creating a spell you may be inspired to create a particular wand. For your personal wand you may be guided to the qualities of a particular type of wood.
Here is a list of the qualities of the trees so you can select the one that is right for you:
Birch – For purification and cleansing of the soul, It symbolizes fertility, healing and rebirth and is known for it’s protective and healing powers. It is powerful when banishing evil spirits. Good for healing magicks.
Rowan– Also called mountain Ash and Witchtree (the base of it’s berries are in the shape of a pentagram). It provides protection against harmful spells. This tree helps to guide travelers home safely and will prevent one from getting lost. The power of this wood can be used for astral travel, visions and healing. The berries can be dried and used as incense.
Alder -For protection and prophesy. It represents two elements, water and fire, because the tree loves water yet burns easily. Due to the fire element some call it the warrior tree. It gives the power of strength, tenacity and determination. This wand can be used to bind and hold evil spirits who wish to harm you.
Willow – A very feminine tree associated with water, night and Lunar Magick. It is a soothing tree that helps to calm emotions and heal illness of the mind, like depression. It is good for casting love, protection and healing spells, and gives the powers of eloquence, inspiration and growth.
Ash – A tree of balance and stability. It fuses together the inner and outer world. It is said that the Viking World Tree Yggdrasil was an Ash Tree. It gives the sorcerer focus and strength and it good at healing mental ailments. It also inspires spiritual vision and dreams. A good wood for black magick.
Hawthorn – A tree of purification, renewal and chastity. A very powerful tree. It is associated with witchcraft, protection and fertility. It is a good tree for casting love/marriage and protection spells. It gives the power of banishing negative forces and protecting loved ones. It is a guarding tree who will guard the sorcerer from harm. Due to it’s deadly thorns it carriers darker energies within it and would also be a good tree for a black magick wand.
Oak – A tree of protection that watches the entrance into the mysterious realms. Oak trees are good if you enjoy exploring the spirit world and discovering the secrets of the universe. The tree gives strength, endurance and power. Oak trees are very large and wise and will help the sorcerer become wise. It will also inspire one with ideas. This is Great for magick that involves using the element of fire. It would make an ideal wand for black magick use.
Holly – Gives you strength and the ability to overcome all struggles. Symbolic of the cycle of death and rebirth. This a good tree for invoking sleep and rest. This tree has bristles and thorns and can be used to protecting and warding off evil spirits. It is a tree of balance as it grows in the winter. It is the life in the dead season. It endures where others fall. It is also a good tree for a black magick wand.
Hazel – A tree that gives intuition, creative inspiration, meditation, knowledge, wisdom and fertility. This wood is good if one is improving their intuition and psychic nature.
Vine – A tree that brings prosperity and help achieve dreams and goals. It’s power also sheds away all masks and reveals the divine truth.
Ivy – Builds Self Esteem and confidence from within. The power of the Ivy lies in strength, and resilience. It is hard to destroy. The vines represent infinite growth and development of the self. It symbolizes the inner and outer journey of the soul.
Reed – This tree give fast energies that give one the strength to take direct action.
Elder – It represent beginnings and endings, It has the power to regenerate any part of it’s being. It is a darker tree as it can be used for spells and curses and is considered the tree of the witches, allowing you to see what is not there. It is a perfect wand for black magick spells.
Apple – A tree that deals with the heart. This tree grants the powers of youth, beauty, and love. The apple keeps all those who eat it immortal. It also is a tree that reveals hidden knowledge. It is a good wand for love and healing spells.
Broom – This tree has purification energies and cleanses areas. It will burn away old growth and make way for new. It is good wand to start with as it will have no tainted energies. It can be used for all types of magick.
Blackthorn – A tree of winter energies. It has black bark and an array of thorns. It is good for curses and piercing spells. It can also be used to summon the dead and communicate with unseen forces. It is an excellent wood for a Black magick wand.
Silver Fir – A tree of height and power. It grown in the mountains reaching for the skies. It opens to the rays of the sun and closes to the rain. It gives clear far sight that stretches over vast regions. It gives the power of flexibility, and the ability to change to blend with your environment. It is good for shape shifting and changing magick.
Furze – A tree of purification. It has a calming nature to it and like the Broom, is purified with the burning of the old growth. It is a good starting wand and can be used for all types of spell casting.
Heather – A very vibrant tree that grows in abundance. It bring the gifts of abundance and good health. It is a good wand for prosperity magick and healing spells.
Poplar – Also called a Whispering or Quivering tree. It gives the powers of protection and ability to withstand attacks. It acts as a great protection shield against all negative forces. It is a good wand if one is working with dangerous spirits.
Yew – A symbol of death and rebirth as the outer layer will die while the inner layer grows. It shows transcendence and becoming a new being. Much like a snake shedding it’s skin. It enhances magickal and psychic abilities and gives one trances. It is a poison tree, good for curses. It is another tree that is good for a black magick wand.
Aspen – This tree gives those the power to communicate with the other world. It is used to contact demons in the dark realm and is also used for protection against darker forces. It is a good wand for summoning.
Spindle – A very bright tree of light. It purifies and gives the gifts of inspiration, initiation and blesses the Sorcerer. It is good tree for a healing wand.
Honeysuckle – This tree is a good attracting tree. It gives the powers of attracting great things into ones life. It is also a very sweet tree dealing with light energies. This wood is good for beauty enhancing and prosperity spells.
Pine – This tree clears the mind of distracting thoughts and allows one to focus on their task. It is good for complicated spells that involve a lot of focus, as it helps the caster to focus the energies.
Witch hazel – This tree helps to clean and area and absorb energies. It is good for purifying areas of negative energies.
Maple Wood
Maple is a balance of both Feminine and Masculine energy.
Magical Properties: Some cultures primarily use Maple wands for spiritual healing and cleansing. Maple is a traveler’s wood, both physical travels and spiritual journeys. It enhances intellectual pursuits, acquiring knowledge, and communication with both people and entities. Spells concerning art, beauty, binding, and abundance should consider using this wood. The gypsies believe Maple brings gold and that eating the seeds draws love.
Cherry Wood
Both feminine and masculine energies. Associated with the elemental Earth.
Magical properties: Cherry wands are very centered and have very grounded energy they can be used for directing energies into the Earth for transformation and strengthening. Earth energy is very well grounded, unwavering, solid, strong and focused. Used for taping into energies to gain insight and intuition when it comes to obstacles. An excellent choice for divination or medium work, as well as healing and love magic. Cherry is suited for use in working with animals and familiars, eroticism, unification of covens and groups, spells of detection, and amplifying spell work.
